Shannon's family moved to Ohio in 1800. He went to Kentucky to further his education.
Shannon enlisted in Maysville, Kentucky Oct. 18, 1803. He was the youngest member of
the expedition.
Shannon became lost twice during the journey west. Once for over two weeks.
