Sergeant Patrick Gass
Born:July 12, 1771, Fall Springs, Pennsylvania
Gass joined the Army in 1799 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Private Gass was recruited along with Sergeant John Ordway from the 1st Infantry
Regiment at Kaskaskia, Illinois Territory and signed on with the Corps of Discovery at
Camp Dubois Jan. 1, 1804.
After the death of Sergeant Charles Floyd, Private Gass was elected to position of
Sergeant. The other candidates were Privates Gibson and Bratton.
